War Thunder Reveals Improved Game and Graphical Engine
Gaijin Entertainment has given a sneak peek at the improved 'Dagor Engine 4.0' for War Thunder with better integration with NVIDIA Gameworks technologies to make the game even more realistic. The game engine will be introduced in a major update soon, according to the developers.
Among them are features such as Physically Based Rendering that calculates light properties using much better algorithms, allowing for more varied and natural looks of light hitting different types of surfaces as shown below. The feature will also take into account different times of the day and different weathers to give added realism to the maps.
Destructible environment improvements based on the NVIDIA Gameworks Destruction system will also be introduced on the new Berlin map and retroactively applied to older maps to allow for more tactical variations in Ground Forces games. On top of the destructible vegetation and fences etc already in game, the Dagor Engine 4.0 will allow for destruction of buildings, allowing players to fire a shell first to take out buildings, then another to take out the tank behind the building.
Lastly, the inclusion of NVIDIA Waterworks technology will generate realistic wave effects and will factor in strength and direction for the water bodies, such as seas, rivers and lakes. The water surfaces will also interact with other in game objects and vehicles to provide immersive water environments for the players to operate on. (War Thunder Naval Forces, anyone?) The new improvements will affect, for example, seaplanes taking off from water, which looks incredibly impressive in the animation here.
