Wargaming Announces Mobile Development Wing WG Cells

Wargaming today announced a new publishing and development division that will focus exclusively on mobile titles called WG Cells. The new company will be led by Wargaming management team veteran Marat Karpeko and operationally headed by former DropForge CEO David Bluhm.

The move follows on from the success of World of Tanks Blitz. The mobile spin off of their flagship MMO has shifted over 35 million downloads, and this served as the catalyst that spawned WG Cells. Wargaming are keen to expand their mobile offerings and the newly created division is key to that goal.

“Wargaming is committed to developing a strong mobile gaming business as one of our major pillars of our corporate strategy,” said Victor Kislyi, CEO of Wargaming. “We understand that the mobile market is massive and has even greater potential. WG Cells allows us to take advantage of this market, provide great games and expand our product scope.”

WG Cells’ portfolio includes several new iOS games:

  • Loot & Legends, a highly rated strategy/role-playing game that was named Editor’s Choice by Apple’s App Store last August and currently available on iPad
  • Fantastic Plastic Squad, developed by Pound Sand studios, launching this year; a third-person shooter set in the 1980s, which was featured on Apple TV at the Apple Special Event.
  • Smash Squad, a role-playing game with a physics-based battle mechanic set to launch next year
