T-Pose's: Outfit Of The Month - January 2021

Welcome to GameGrin’s Outfit of the Month or "OOTM" Series. A selection of the finest folk here at GameGrin have decided to bring something a little more fashion-forward to the table.

Every month we’ll be looking back on all the newest game releases and deciding which characters and their outfits are worthy of mention, and ultimately, who is the best dressed? We would love your input on our ratings and any suggestions for other articles we could collaborate on in the future, so let us know your thoughts in the comments below. Without further ado, let’s talk game fashion. - Emsey

RANKING EXPLAIN v1

Agent 47 - Hitman 3

20th of January on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows

hitman outfit 3

Agent 47’s iconic suit and red tie combo is almost as famous as he is. He’s definitely dedicated to the look, as it’s not changed in twenty-one years, and honestly, why should it?
The clean lines of a well-fitting jacket and trousers complements his sharp and calculated demeanour; paired with a freshly pressed white shirt adds an air of professionalism that 47 is well known for.

It's an understated look by design, allowing him to keep somewhat anonymous in a crowd. The bold choice of a blood-red tie gives the look a touch of flair, perhaps hinting at his deadly profession. One might call it a killer look. - Emsey

Ji Kang (Princess of the Qi Kingdom) - Bladed Fury

22nd of January on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One

Ji Kang3

Though it may not be the most appropriate attire anywhere outside of fashion week - Ji’s deconstructed traditional Chinese hanfu-haute couture look conveys her character and status; just from a glance.

Her blue ombre dress that is barely held together by a belt along the waist provides her some modicum of decency. Though highly unfunctional, it evokes the Rebel Princess vibe decently - Someone who needed to leave the palace ten minutes ago and made a fashion statement in the process.

Speaking of fashion over function: Ji’s accents the gown with a set of golden imperialistic gauntlets and black glove combo, some of the interlocking scarlet armour plates that situate on her thighs, as well as a pair of long white thigh high stocking & scandals. - Danielle

Marianne (Spirit Realm Outfit) - The Medium

28th of January on Microsoft Windows, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S

 marianne spirit realm 2

When entering the spirit world, there’s no telling what you might find, so it pays to be ready for anything. That line of thinking should certainly extend to one’s choice of outfit, as Marianne smartly demonstrates here. It would be difficult to find a locale, either in our world or the other one, where this seemingly simple outfit would look out of place.

The deep red of the sweater contrasts nicely with the muted grey of Marianne’s coat and pants, reminiscent of a muddier take on the classic red-on-white colour combo. This draws our attention to the medium’s upper torso, where we can next admire her small, golden necklace and the soft inner lining of the coat, implying a latent sentimentality and a desire for warmth respectively.

Both of these connections are further reinforced throughout the outfit. The tears and rips along the jacket’s torso imply a sense of age and wear to the clothing, as though it's been Marianne’s coat of choice for a considerable amount of time. Not to mention the strange, white energy seeping through these cuts, matching nicely with this medium’s hair and lending the ensemble an air of mysteriousness. On the other hand, the long cuffs, fingerless gloves, and high collar of the sweater all further contribute to the outfit’s warmth theme, making this stylish look a perfect choice for January’s chillier days and The Medium’s chilling scenery. - Erin

Tao Mongarten - Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy

26th of January on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC

Tao Ryza2 3

At first glance, it’s obvious that the scholar-in-training Tao Mongarten is from a JRPG but upon closer inspection, you find that he knows how to dress for both function and style. The overall theme of his outfit is one of a researcher who is prepared for long hikes whatever the weather might be.

The whole outfit is made up of soft browns, grey, and greens that all complement each other and match his blonde hair perfectly. With his hiking boots and jacket standing out as key items, they reinforce that this is an outfit for the outdoor person. Add in the numerous pockets and backpack, and Tao is ready for anything.

Once more, the choice shorts along with the overall ‘loose’ feel of the outfit works when you consider that Tao fights with a sword, and therefore needs the range of movement for quick dashes. In all, Tao has taken the tried and tested researcher aesthetic and given it a breath of fresh air that stands out as the height of fashion. Plus, the fact he is willing to rock goggles with glasses shows that he is not afraid to wear what he wants. - JudgementalWaifu

OUTFIT OF THE MONTH

And here we have it! Our best-dressed character from the videogames that have been released in the month of January of 2021: Blade Fury's Ji Kang - looking rather pensive and regal on the cover of our T•Pose.
