E3 2017 - Sony Predictions

E3 2017 - Sony Predictions

Sony will be coming into E3 looking to continue its train of success from previous years. Its focus remains all about the games but following last year’s unbelievable line-up, how does the Japanese company continue its impressive run of shows? Expect them to once again line up with third party titles, like Destiny 2 and Star Wars: Battlefront II (2017), but aside from those, here’s five things that might just happen at Sony’s E3 press conference.

PlayStationE3

1: Release Dates Galore

Sony’s past few conferences have been all about the games, yet only one of the most recent batch has actually been released, that of Horizon: Zero Dawn. Logically speaking that means that the time has finally come to shed the light on some either ball-park or exact release dates for a huge chunk of Sony’s first party library. By early Monday morning expect to know when you can get your hands on the likes of GT Sport, Days Gone, Spider-Man (2017), Detroit: Become Human, God of War or even Death Stranding.

2: Bloodborne 2

“Welcome, good hunter”. Those words, spoken by that eerie living doll will be enough to set the proverbial hype train in motion. Bloodborne released two-years ago, celebrating positive review scores as well as being welcomed into the Souls family with open arms, some even argue it's better than its Dark Souls brethren. Regardless of your stance, now is the perfect opportunity for From Software to show their hand, revealing what they have been working on over the past 24 and a bit months. The chime of cathedral bells, the flicker of candlelight and the screech of an unimaginable beast, all fans want is more of the same.

3: Sucker Punch’s new IP revealed

Much like Sony Bend last year, who finally revealed what they been working on since 2011, first party studio Sucker Punch has been quiet since it released inFamous: Second Son alongside the launch of the PlayStation 4 back in 2014. Sucker Punch is one of the only developers in Sony’s repertoire that haven’t announced a game within the last few years making this the perfect time to do so. Smart money says this is a completely new IP, but with elements of InFamous’ openworld-ness.

4: Red Dead Redemption 2 First Look

It had been hush hush since its reveal back in Autumn of last year, but Red Dead Redemption 2, now delayed into Spring 2018, has emerged from its hibernation. Rumours had suggested that its original announcement would come at the conclusion of Sony’s 2016 conference - we had what felt like a shoehorned in second look at Days Gone if you remember. Though traditionally Rockstar are a non-entity at the industry's largest event, the legendary game maker has aligned with Sony for Red Dead marketing so it wouldn't be a surprise to see a first look at gameplay. It might be the only way to trump any Scorpio announcements.

5: Horizon: Zero Dawn Story DLC

Pretty self explanatory this one. Horizon: Zero Dawn met everyone’s expectations as a truly beautiful RPG full of robot dinosaurs and people in stupid clothes. If developer, Guerilla Games, want to keep up the player’s engagement, a healthy slab of story DLC featuring Aloy and a host of new monsters to take down will be a perfect way to give the game another surge of excitement amongst the industry.
