Second Sight Diaries Part Four

Second Sight Diaries Part Four

This is my exploration of Second Sight, where I will chronicle my playthrough like a text-based Let’s Play. Now let’s continue…

After escaping from a hospital with amnesia and psychic powers, John Vattic had gone looking for someone who might be able to fill in the gaps…

The level Madness took me to Penfold Asylum, Rutland, Vermont on 6th October at 1830hrs. I’d woken up about 32 hours ago, so hopefully had found time to sleep on my 10-hour drive up the coast. I had obtained some spectacles and clothes, too, which was a bonus.

After gaining entry to the grounds, I snuck and Charmed my way past multiple guards until I reached an open basement-level window and climbed in. Unfortunately, I had an intense migraine and let out a burst of energy, which smashed some bulbs, alerting two orderlies who were patrolling the basement. One came to investigate and was telekinetically murdered for his troubles.

The other kept walking his route as I picked up a tranq gun and snuck by him, heading to the right as he walked left. I explored a little and found a spiral staircase, which led up to the library… but it was locked. I figured I’d knock the guy out and go the other way, but after I shot him, he dropped a Library Key!

Returning to the door, I headed through and kept hidden from the doctors inside. But then I voiced a great idea: they didn’t know who I was, so I could pretend to work there! I tried to access a computer, but the password turned out to not be “NO IDEA”, so I went to chat with a “colleague”. They advised me to use the network password “mad2bhere”.

Once I logged into the computer, I unlocked the upper door, then checked the patient database for Jayne Wilde. She was being kept on the first floor of the high security block, so I headed for a ladder to reach the newly unlocked door. There was nothing inside worth noting, but I spotted a ventilation shaft and climbed inside.

At the other end was what appeared to be a tower with stairs against the wall leading down. I shot an orderly, then made my way down to the next level, and could see another orderly on the next floor, so I shot him too before going down to the ground floor. It was a good thing that I had decided to hide with Charm, as a security guard was looking directly into the room as I hid behind the one bed in the centre.

I used Projection to scout ahead, discovering that I needed to shoot the guard and sneak past two doctors attending to a ward. At the end of the following hallway was another ward with a single doctor, but my psi power ran out before I could investigate further. So, I shot and sneaked, then in the second ward I hid in an office looking down over the ward. It was a good thing, too, as I found a Dormitory Access Card on a table.

Assuming that the card was required to exit the ward, I snuck down and, as I thought, found a card reader next to a door, so I swiped the access card and ducked inside. A short way into the hallway, I had a migraine and psychic flash of Jayne saying that only I could save everyone.

Recovered, I Projected into the atrium ahead, which had two other hallways leading off of it and a big statue of a robed figure in the middle. One of the hallways appeared blocked off, so I checked out the other one and found an orderly guarding some rooms and a desk at the far end. I attempted to access the computer, but ran out of psi power.

As I entered the atrium myself, a security announcement summoned guards to apprehend an escaped patient, who happened to run out in front of me. Luckily, the guards were distracted, so I quietly took down the nearby orderlies with my tranq gun, then logged into the PC. A memo told me that the ground floor security gate code was 7791, but there was nothing else of interest.

Just past the desk was a hallway which had a security camera at the far end. Since my Charm didn’t hide me from cameras, I ducked into a room and spotted a ventilation shaft, so used that to reach the end of the hallway and access the keypad beneath the camera. I had remained charmed while entering the code, and once again it was a good idea as I hadn’t spotted a nearby guard!

I now had access to stairs leading up, but as I ascended, Jayne once more caused a migraine saying, “no one else can save us”... The stairs higher up were blocked off, so I hoped that I was on the right floor as I sent a projection to take a look. Multiple armed orderlies were positioned around the place, with a gate blocking the way ahead, guarded by two in a little room with a computer.

Armed with my tranq gun and my Charm, I shot everyone (picking up a shotgun and .45 pistol) and evaded the security cameras — but that left the gate an insurmountable obstacle. One of the guards had come out, but I had missed my chance as the gate closed behind them. So, I used the .45 to fire a shot, hoping to gain the attention of the other guard — this failed. So, I shot the nearest security camera, which drew him out!

The guard shot, I got inside the gate quickly and accessed the computer and the CCTV cameras. One of the cameras was inside Jayne’s room! So, I deactivated them all and unlocked a door, but it automatically locked after five seconds. So, I had to project myself to the computer, unlock it, and quickly recover so that I could exit.

As luck would have it, Jayne’s room was the closest door. I found her holding an unchained fob watch, which played a tune, which she dropped when I tapped her shoulder. She cowered away from me but snatched the watch away when I picked it up. She was clearly not present, but after I wound the watch again for her, she allowed me to help her to her feet. Her legs were badly scarred, and she had no shoes, so I couldn’t imagine that this would be fun for her.

As we started Rescue, we were outside in the rain and I had to use my Charm power to keep Jayne moving. An announcement went out about a possible security breach in the north wing, though I figured that shouldn’t concern us, as we had just left the west wing. At the bottom of the stairs, I spotted a Tranq gun in a pond, so I grabbed it and headed for the door.

Lightning struck the fence cage around it, startling Jayne which required me to Charm her to calm down and resume following me. Once through the door, a lone guard fell to my tranquiliser, but the door was barred. I crawled under a half-broken door and climbed out of a window, then used my Telekinesis to remove the wood keeping the door closed. Since the ladder leading out of the area was jammed, I also had to psychically pull it down.

At the top, I heard a guard whistling, so shot him, then led Jayne around the rooftop to a scaffold. I could see a patient through a skylight who was looking out of the window, so I tranq’d him and we crossed over. Just as we reached the other side, the scaffold fell!

Just around the corner ahead were multiple guards, so I attempted (and failed) to take them out quietly. Luckily, I wasn’t hurt too badly before all four were unconscious. There was no way through by heading back inside, so we went over the guards’ perch. Down a ladder was a locked door on a balcony, with another one on the opposite side of the building, past a guard room.

I told Jayne to wait and assessed my options. Since a poorly constructed fence blocked my way, I had to dangle and climb along the ledge to reach the other balcony, which was unlocked. I hid myself with Charm as I entered the adjoining hallway, then went through a door to find two guards. I shot them, then checked out the nearby rooms.

A patient was inside one of them, and happily handed over a Balcony Key that they’d stolen. I snuck past the guard room windows and returned to Jayne through the door and ladder, then had her go with me to the elevator. It was stuck, but I was able to easily climb on top of it and drop through the open hatch and press the button to fetch Jayne.

When we reached the ground floor, I told her to wait while I checked outside — to find a bunch of guards waiting for us. I tranq’d them all, then gathered Jayne and we headed for the door at the far end of the “garden”. Unfortunately, I hadn’t noticed the two on the balcony with the open door, so we got shot a bit before I could use a Psi Attack on each of them.

I healed Jayne and led her in through the door, where I was shot again by a lone guard before I could take him out. I made her wait and scouted ahead with my Projection, finding two more guards, so I sneakily shot them and took Jayne into the sewers through a manhole cover.

As we took a moment to rest, she came somewhat to her senses and recognised me. However, she couldn’t remember who “those people” were when I asked about the asylum staff for some reason. She then got quite upset when I asked about Col. Joshua Starke, because he’d been shot dead and I had been there…
