So I Tried… Dustforce

So I Tried… Dustforce

Each edition of So I Tried… I will try a game that I have never tried before. Will I find something new to love? Will I find something new to despise? I'll take a full half hour, no matter how bad it gets or how badly I do, to see if this is the game for me. This time I went for the PC version of Dustforce.

What I thought it was

A platformer where you have a broom? I bought it AGES ago, and have forgotten why. All I remember is the “brushing dust” looked fun. Now that I’ve written that, I’m tempted to check out the Steam page to ensure I’m not misremembering, and this portion looks frigging stupid.

What it actually is

A 2D platformer where you have to sweep up dust or leaves, and also knock the dust and leaves off of gargoyles and wild animals. You’re competing on leaderboards, and as far as I can tell there is no storyline - but it’s a mad parkouring time, with wall running, double jumping and all sorts of awesome moves.

Will I keep playing

Heck yeah, Dustforce is a blast! Once you get the controls down - I played using keyboard - movement is really smooth. The graphics are great, there are multiple characters to play as, and the levels are quite varied. Also, one of the characters wears purple overalls, so you know I had to play as her - Third Street represent!
