Second Sight Diaries Part Nine
This is my exploration of Second Sight, where I will chronicle my playthrough like a text-based Let’s Play. Now let’s continue…
After following a trail, John Vattic had discovered that the National Security Executive was experimenting on people, so had taken a trip in his memories back to Dubrensk and gone beneath a church…

Childcare began on 22nd February at 1020hrs, inexplicably 15 minutes since Doctor Barranikov had asked me to save the children, meaning that canonically Vattic ran the whole way, encountering no resistance. Director Hanson was in an office in the Zener Facility, accompanied by two of his elite soldiers and Professor Grienko. Hanson told them to gather all of the important paperwork, as they had to leave since I’d gotten inside. The children, however, Hanson sinisterly assured he would “look after them.” Then, he whispered that Grienko needed killing.
The hand-crank powered elevator had brought me to a level where there was an abandoned laboratory and a single-person elevator, which had no controls on my level. I was unable to access the labs, as there was no power — but there was a turbine in a side room, which I was able to rotate with my Telekinesis. As it spun, a “ghost” appeared and said that it would help, while some nearby crates began to levitate.

Once power was restored, they told me to meet them in the lab, so I headed back and went inside to be greeted by a child named Anna. She begged me to help the other children, then warned that more soldiers were on their way, before running off.
Three troops were in the next hallway, and as I exited the laboratory, one entered the area just outside. I used Charm to go invisible, and snuck past all three, returning to the turbine room. There was a door at the top of some stairs, but it required a valid handprint to activate the scanner, so I possessed one of the soldiers and went inside before exploring through a door to the right.

As I reached the end of the ramp and entered the door, I discovered more hostiles. They were shooting at some children, who were using the same shield that the special forces did. I was rapidly running out of psi power, so I gunned down one of the soldiers and attempted to take out a second as they returned fire.
My power ran out, returning me to my body, so I waited for it to recharge before possessing another soldier and going back, though I found only one more remaining, so I shot them. After my power had recharged again, I took the same guy (once he returned) through a door to the left and found cells with one guard, so I killed him.

On my third run with the same soldier — he was getting his steps in — I did a thorough check of the control room, locating a computer that I could use. I deactivated the cameras and managed to change the scanners to accept any hand print, but my host was attacked because they didn’t like him doing that.
Now that I could get in, I went invisible and through the door down to the cells, which I opened up. I caught sight of a “ghost” but none of the kids appeared to actually be in the cells, so I went through a door at the end of the hall, which led me to the room where the kids were being shot.

The twins were still there and asked me to help the other two kids, so I headed back to the control room, only for the door to bend out of shape as a commotion began. Soldiers called for reinforcements against one of the kids, so I had to go all the way back through the cells and up to the other door, where I killed the soldiers. The child was still upset, so I used the same Charm trick that I’d used on Jayne Wilde before.
Once calm, the child, Peter, told me that Nadja was the last person I needed to help, but she was shy, so I should follow her “projection” (so not ghosts). Peter ran off, so I followed Nadja to a previously locked door and killed a soldier who was guarding another set of cells. From information on the walls of both sets of cells, it appeared that there were more children, but some had been taken to another level after “mutating”...

Nadja was outside the cells, so I asked if she could lead me to Grienko, and she did so. It was back in the control room, and I had to kill some more guards including two special forces (who I discovered I could possess), but of course it was through a door that had previously remained closed to me.
Grienko greeted me after Nadja opened the door and began handing me files. In his rambling, he explained that he was happy to be moving the work to America, as they had more money than the Russians, despite having the same lack of vision. His research had been completely repeatable, and his notes fully explained how to unleash the psychic power of candidates.

However, before we could leave, Vattic was brought back to the present in Confrontation. It was now 2230hrs on 7th October, so breaking into the National Security Executive building had taken an hour and a half. As I went to exit the multimedia suite, three agents came barging in. I shot two of them, but the other ran away — for some reason not sounding the alarm as he went.
I picked up an elevator key and hurried to the pair of elevators that had been guarded earlier, but were now free. Entering and heading up, I Projected to check for guards and found many spread through the nearby rooms, so I possessed a random one and shot as many of them as possible before I ran out of energy.

While waiting for my psi power to recharge, however, they came looking for me! I shot two of the attackers, and while trying to take cover, the elevator took me back downstairs…
Upon returning, I killed the final assailant, then went into an office and shot another three people. While hiding myself with Charm, I spotted at least one more agent in the hallway behind cover, so I tried to bypass him by entering through a pair of doors into what appeared to be a lab.

Some large pods containing people slid back, possibly prompted by my entry, and as I approached them, the occupant of one crashed through the glass door to attack me! He had the now-familiar shield when shot, so I used my powers and guns combined to deal damage. He cloaked himself, seemingly using the same powers as me, and hid in a corner to use Healing, but I found him and shot him.
Killing one brought out two more, however, but since these almost-naked people didn’t have guns, I only had to put up with them throwing Psi Attacks at me. Soon enough, the second was also dead — that’s when the fourth one attacked! But the third and fourth also soon died, now that I knew what I was doing.

A National Security Executive agent reported to Director Hanson what I had done, and the man was quite okay with it, so said that he’d be waiting in his office. The agent returned to open the door for me, so I shot him in the face. Sure, he hadn’t attacked me, but I also wasn’t giving him the chance.
After healing, I went down the hallway and into Hanson’s office. He explained that the research that the NSE was doing was above board, and accused WinterICE of having killed the psychic children in Dubrensk. After all, hadn’t I been mowing down people to get to him? I told him that I was going to end this, but he shot back that this was all his plan — he had wanted me to escape as a test!

I grabbed him with Telekinesis, but he summoned two hidden special agents, one of whom was holding Jayne Wilde. I let him free, and he taunted me that I couldn’t change the past. I announced that he was wrong, then had a migraine as a shot rang out and Jayne screamed…
