Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022) Short Thoughts #3 - Stealth
There are many instances throughout the campaign where stealth is encouraged (I’d argue far too many), and it doesn't ever really work. I'm going to say right now, I'm not someone who likes stealth in games; most of the time I actively avoid stealth and opt for carnage, which may be the reason for my dismay here. However, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022) not only expects you to be stealthy but doesn’t even try to hold your hand with it, leaving a stealth noob like me to just accept their inevitable death until they get lucky.
Much like the swimming, it's finicky and annoying; sometimes enemies have hawk vision, and sometimes they are as blind as bats. You also cannot see enemy routes or vision cones, you have only a little yellow mark on your compass which means an enemy is looking in your direction. You know when you’ve actually been spotted because you’re suddenly riddled with machine gun fire.
The lack of consistency just makes it difficult to grasp and ultimately frustrating. Luckily there are no instant fails if stealth is either ignored by the player or you’re unfortunately spotted, and you can just mow down your foes — it just feels anticlimactic to do this and you feel the need to reload your last checkpoint.
