Freebie Feelers is a series where we download the free monthly console-specific or newly released free-to-play games to test their worth. This series will contain some useful information as well as plenty of personal opinion. While these articles may not be reviews, we hope that you will be able to use them to help decide whether that free download is worth it.
What is it?
The Chronicles series is a spinoff from the Assassin’s Creed line of titles. While maintaining the same overall lore and history, these titles change one major thing about the previous games: the perspective. Taking on a 2.5D style, players of the Chronicles games can expect a very different experience from what they’ve grown to know of the original Assassin’s Creed franchise. This particular entry is set in India and follows the trials and tribulations of Arbaaz on his quest for retribution.
What did you think?
I really enjoy these titles and liked this one as much as the others. 2.5D games are a bit strange and can be tough to make interesting but I never really felt like that was an issue in India. Sneakily making my way from place to place is satisfying and fills a gap that most Assassin’s Creed titles usually have. Normally I work my way through an Assassin’s Creed game hoping it finally does stealth in a way that feels well… sneaky. Although I can’t speak for Origins, I can say that I have found only a few good stealth sections in the main series so the Chronicles series is perfect for making up for that.
Is it worth downloading?
This title takes a bit more patience than most of the Games with Gold games we usually see. Being a stealth-oriented game, players will be tasked with taking sections slow and planning out their next move a lot of the time. If you’re okay with methodically working your way through various stages, this will be right up your alley. For those of you that have to have that surge of adrenaline while they play, it may be better to give this one a pass. Either way, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India is free from Xbox’s Games with Gold program through the end of February.
