Freebie Feelers... Rayman 3 HD

Freebie Feelers is a series where we download the free monthly console-specific or newly released free-to-play games to test their worth. This series will contain some useful information as well as plenty of personal opinion. While these articles may not be reviews, we hope that you will be able to use them to help decide whether that free download is worth it.

What is it?

Rayman 3 is one of the 3D titles from the Rayman series. The player will utilize simple controls such as jumping, punching, and hovering to traverse several levels and defeat the evils found within them. There are also a few temporary power-ups the player will find that will change how the game plays, making certain challenges conquerable. Whether playing for fun, score, or completion, this title is sure to keep you busy. Rayman 3 HD is simply a decent enough platformer from a previous era.

What did you think?

Whilst I enjoyed some of my time with the game, I walked away without feeling like I was missing out. I prefer the 2D platformers from the Rayman series such as Legends and Origins. Playing as Rayman in 3D is a fun novelty, but there definitely are better, similar games. Part of me wants to try to complete the game, but I’m afraid it won't be fun enough to keep my attention all the way through to the end. The game’s age shows pretty badly at times, but that’s to be expected when playing an HD remaster of a game that came out nearly 15 years ago.

Is it worth downloading?

Unless you’re a fan of Rayman or enjoy old school platformers, this would be easy to pass up. Beside some normal issues that come with older platformers (awkward camera leading to missed jumps, annoying enemies in the worst spots, and puzzles that are too simple or tedious to be fun), this game also has a glitch that can potentially ruin any run by making the final level unplayable. This glitch apparently happens when revisiting past worlds, which seems like kind of a big deal. If this doesn’t scare you off and you still want to grab up this title, make sure you get it before the 15th of October on Xbox 360 or Xbox One.
