Freebie Feelers... Battlefield 3

Freebie Feelers is a series where we download the free monthly console-specific or newly released free-to-play games to test their worth. This series will contain some useful information as well as plenty of personal opinion. While these articles may not be reviews, we hope that you will be able to use them to help decide whether that free download is worth it.

What is it?

Battlefield 3 is a first-person shooter, and a part of EA's lineup of Battlefield games. Gameplay consists of a single player campaign, following the events of the fictional "War of 2014", whereas multiplayer continues the tried and tested formula of respawning players into a battlefield until one team gets to a set points limit in order to win.

What did you think?

Overall, it's more of the same Battlefield gameplay you've come to know and expect from the series. If you're new to the scene, however, the campaign is somewhat lackluster - feeling entirely scripted throughout. This leads to a feeling that you're not really the character but instead merely watching the events unfold. A movie with some interactivity, if you will. However, Battlefield 3's core is in the team based multiplayer. Get yourself working with a group of comrades and feel the elation as you bring your team to victory.

Is it worth downloading?

If you're into your multiplayer FPS games, then BF3 is a good blast to keep you going in between bouts of other games to stop things from becoming stale. However, if you're looking for a game with a single player campaign that tests your skills, you're better off looking elsewhere, I'm afraid.

BF3 can be had up until the 30th of September, at which point it will return to its standard retail pricing.

When not getting knee deep in lines of code behind the scenes, you'll find him shaving milliseconds off lap times in Forza.
