Red Faction Guerrilla Diaries Part Six

This is my ongoing exploration of the Red Faction Universe. Whether you’re a newcomer or an old-goer, I hope to make this something you can read along with and enjoy. I am continuing Red Faction Guerilla.

After my unexpected death left the Red Faction moral taking a dive, I knew my next moves would have to be decisive…

I decided to ignore the two races nearby, because I hate races! Also, I tried one and ran out of time whilst still a clear minute away… Stupid open world races… Instead, I went to help out Jenkins -- he had me climb aboard his vehicle and take control of the weapons. My mission: destroy up to 55 million credits worth of EDF property.

It was fairly easy, as wherever Jenkins drove, we had EDF APCs on our tail. He drove in loops around the buildings he wanted targetted, so once I got used to the bumpiness of the roads it was pretty easy to choose my shots. When I racked up a high enough score, he drove back to a safehouse and let me out.

I'm just glad they have respawning vehicles...

A mission still not available, I went to the nearest high priority destruction target and drove a jeep through the walls. Followed by two tons of explosives, a hail of bullets and some Nano Forge.

Somehow surviving, I made a run for it as the buildings collapsed and Hugo Davies contacted me to tell me that the next mission was finally available. It just so happened to be around the corner, so I ran over -- but had to make a break for it as you can’t accept missions whilst the EDF are on your arse…

With the EDF evaded, I accepted the mission. I had to go to the nearby airfield and plant some charges on the aircraft, to clear the Free Fire Zone for the Red Faction. Sam was giving me some special charges, rigged to go off once they reached 10 meters from the ground.

The advice was that I sneak in -- I decided to give it a try, and climbed up some nearby hills completely bypassing the guards. Despite none of them spotting me, they went to alert and began firing on my position…

I whipped out the Nano Forge and vaporised three of the aircraft before they could take off. The other two successfully left the ground, requiring me to shoot them down. Luckily the EDF hadn’t managed to mount much of an assault against me, and I managed to get out of there without them doing much damage.

Winning

With that done, the EDF were officially kicked out of the Badlands -- however the next mission wasn’t available. I headed to the Oasis safehouse and got some upgrades, before checking out what side missions were available. I went for one on the edge of my explored map.

I had to help the Red Faction to storm an EDF facility, and murder the hell out of troops. I decided the best way to do this would be to demolish the apartment building which they had sought shelter in. Although I inadvertantly killed several guerrillas at the same time, my strategy worked. The instant the mission ended, the building collapsed. It may have even clipped me on its way down…

Zooooom!

I then went to find some ammo, and a random encounter popped up, telling me to get to some more nearby apartments to help defend them against the EDF. I ran over and set some explosives on a car that I used to block a choke point, then shot the EDF who were already there. I turned around and spotted an APC heading over, then blew the car up. Although it damaged the APC enough to destroy it, it didn’t explode until the troops it was carrying had managed to get out. A few explosives later, however, and one more mission was cleared.

This was when Davies contacted me to tell me that we could finally liberate Oasis. I went over to check it out, only to be told that the EDF were pulling out -- and tanks were en route...
