How to Complete the Great Taste of Pharloom Quest in Hollow Knight: Silksong

How to Complete the Great Taste of Pharloom Quest in Hollow Knight: Silksong

The highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong is officially out, and players all around the world have gotten the opportunity to start their journey across the sequel. On your adventure past the first act and into the second, you'll want to start looking to upgrade your needle, but the precious oil required for it comes with a very difficult quest to complete.

The Grand Gourmand demands a pretty hefty list of items, many of which are promised to be before the Grand Gate. But with a map as large as Pharloom, it's tough to really know where to start, so we're going to cover all of the ingredients in this article to help you know where to go.

Of course, spoiler warning for anything past Act 1. I'll be assuming you know enough about the game to have encountered Wish to begin with, and I'll have to spoil a bit more to help you complete the quest. Before we get into the ingredients, however...

When Can You Complete the Quest?

Right, so you're preparing a meal for the Great Gourmand, but just because you came across him doesn't mean you have the tools to complete the quest. You actually need two different skills to complete this journey: the Clawline and the Faydown Cloak. Without further ado, her are all of the ingredients you’ll need to get:

Mossberry Stew

The Mossberry Stew is the easiest one to acquire, and it's likely that you'll have already met the NPC that gives it to you: the Druid. Located at the bottom of Pharloom in Moss Grotto, you'll need to head to the Mosshome section in the bottom-right, where you can hear the Druid laughing.

There, Hornet will ask the Druid for the Mossberry Stew, and you'll be able to get r first ingredient.

Vintage Nectar

The Vintage Nectar is the last easy ingredient you'll be able to acquire, though you'll need to have your needle in hand to prepare for combat. Head to the Halfway House in Greymoor and speak to the barkeeper, who will have Vintage Nectar for you... for a price.

See, this rare ingredient only has about six bottles left in the world, so you'll have to pay him 480 rosary beads to get it. Heading down into the cellar isn't the end of the quest, as you'llbe swarmed by invading ants from the Hunter's March, and you'll need to slay all of them to be able to claim your prize and leave.

Courier's Rasher

The Courier's Rasher will first require you to complete a fair few Wishes if you've been rushing through the game. For starters, you need to find the couriers Tip and Pill (two different quests) to be able to even begin attempting your run with the Courier's Rasher.

These quests are located in Bellhart, so after you've set the town free and completed these two, you'll be able to talk to the brothers and help them do their deliveries. The Courier's Rasher is a quest where the food will spoil if you don't get there fast enough... or take too much damage.

The route will really be entirely up to you, depending on how you want to get it, but seeing as there's no way to acquire the other ingredients without Clawline and the Faydown Cloak, you'll want to get those first. Movement options are a fantastic opportunity to make the quest much easier, because you'll need to be speedy and make sure you don't take too much damage.

For those who played Hollow Knight, it's similar to the Delicate Flower questline, just that it's timed. You're allowed to take a few hits, but doing so costs your timer a tad, so it's about trying over and again until you get a good route and momentum.

Crustnut

If you haven't acquired the Clawline, the Crustnut will be a very frustrating item that feels so clearly easy to get: it's at the peak of the Blasted Steps, or so you're led to believe. The reality is that this ingredient is hidden behind a secret area you can only unlock by using the Clawline.

At the Blasted Steps, where you meet the rude lady who teaches you how to charge your needle, you can use your Clawline to cling onto the hooks and do some elaborate platforming to get to the Sands of Karak. This location then works a bit like the Path of Pain, as it's full of platforming, and it's timed, so you'll need to move it quickly.

It's not quite at the end of the Sands of Karak, so you don't have to kill the area's boss if you don't feel like it. In the second large vertical area, if you climb to the very top (and haven't completed the area), you'll find a bridge that blocks your way. To the left, you can unlock a new location that leads to the Crustnut.

Pickled Muckmaggot

Finally, we have the Pickled Muckmaggot, which requires the Faydown Cloak to complete. On the right of the Sinner's Road, you'll find a section where you need to double-jump to get in; there are no enemies around, so it's impossible to do it via pogo.

Once you've used your Faydown Cloak to get up there, you'll find a golden gong that you can smack to begin a boss fight. First, you'll face two enemy butchers that should swiftly fall to your needle, but then you'll have to battle the Disgraced Chef Lugoli.

There you have it! All of the five ingredients for the Great Taste of Pharloom! Now you can upgrade your needle.
