How to Find Your Game Executable and Game Folder Location in Steam
Whether you're looking to troubleshoot or mod your games, you'll need to find your executables... quite often. Though it sounds extremely daunting, Valve's Steam platform makes it incredibly easy to find this information if you know where to look.
To find the executable of any game (yes, it works for every game). It's as simple as having the game downloaded and your Steam client open, ready to find what you're looking for.
Here are the specific steps to find the executable of any videogame:
- Find the game you want to locate in the .exe file of your Steam library.
- Right-click the game.
- Hover over the "Manage" option in the drop-down menu.
- Select "Browse Local Files".
NOTE: this will only work on installed games.
Here, you'll find the folder in which your files were downloaded to! Some games take you directly to where the .exe is located, whereas others will require you to move a little bit through the folders to find it (in the case of DARK SOULS III, for instance, you need to click the "Game" folder before finding it).
There is an alternative way to get there that is a bit more convoluted with a few more steps, but for the sake of wholeness, we're also including it here (especially in case a Steam update ever removes one or the other). Here's the alternative route:
- Find the game you want the .exe file of in your Steam library.
- Right-click the game.
- Select "Properties..." in the drop-down menu.
- Go to the "Installed Files" section on the Properties window.
- Click the first option to the right named "Browse..." in the same row as "Size of installation".
We hope this guide was useful!
