Tips & Tricks to Beat Omega Planetes in Monster Hunter Wilds

Title Update 3 for Monster Hunter Wilds is here, and alongside some great quality-of-life changes (and new ways to spend money), comes a new collaboration that is sure to… rip your hair out as you see “Duty Failed” again and again.

Just like Behemoth in Monster Hunter: World, hunters must now face Omega Planetes; a raid boss from the Heavensward expansion of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn. You know it’s bad when the devs put out a video and in-game tutorials on how to beat the damn thing. And that’s only its weaker variant; there’s an HR 100 Event Quest that features Savage Omega Planetes, who is not only stronger, but has half of the update content locked behind it. This thing feels harder than Extreme Behemoth! Luckily, I’ve fought Omega a lot these past few days, so I have a good understanding of what you need to do to beat that giant robot.

Prep Your Items

To win, cart less.

Before your hunt, I cannot stress enough that you should stuff everything you need into your item pouch. I’ve broken down what you need and what’s nice to have, and the reasons why. Ignore if you’re running skills that make some of these items obsolete. Make sure to set up your radial menu for quick access.

Remember to disable equipment you don't need (unless you like cooking in front of a murder bot)

Necessary

  • Potions and their ingredients, because it pays to be prepared for running out mid-fight.

  • Rations, though I prefer Well-Done Steaks when using Speed Eating.

  • Lifepowder and Dust of Life, to heal your teammates

  • Max and Ancient Potions, for when you almost die

  • Farcaster, just in case you need to restock... just don’t try it when the Nerscylla Clone is out.

  • Cleanser, free yourself from webbing and frostblight.

  • Hot Drinks, you’re fighting in Jin Dahaad’s area, so this is a must. Drink one before departing.

  • Might Pill and Armour Pill, you’ll need all the buffs you can get.

  • Mega Armourdrug and Mega Demondrug, drink before departing, as they should last the entire quest.

  • Demon Powder and Hardshell Powder, for extra buffs.

  • Armorcharm and Powercharm, never do a High Rank quest without them.

  • Soul of the Paintomancer, this has a casting time but deals some good damage, no matter the spell used. Great for dealing with the Omega Micros.

Optional

  • Herbal Medicine, poison isn’t the worst status, but it’s nice to bring one or two for the clone.

  • Nulberries, just in case you don't have the Fire resistance.

  • Deodorant, you may need to take care of the Stench status caused by Morbol Seedlings.

  • Mushrooms, Mushroomancer + Wide Range will make you just as loved as a Hunting Horn player.

  • Wild Jerky, as it will fully recover the red part of your health gauge and may act better than a Mega Potion.

DO NOT BRING

  • Any Pods, all of them are ineffective.

  • Traps, since too many people bring them for Slay quests.

Armour Set and Weapon

Put away your comfort set, you're gonna need a proper build.

Omega Planetes has a very aggressive attack pattern that will rarely give you the downtime to heal and rest, and you will need to support your teammates all throughout. If you don’t have a group of friends willing to coordinate builds (an optimal team should have a tank, a healer/support, and two DPS), you’re going to need to keep everyone alive and beat it under the 35-minute time limit.

This is an example set! It's not perfect, but it should get the job done. (G. Arkveld Helm β, Arkvulcan Mail β, G. Arkveld Vambraces β, Suja Sash α, Arkvulcan Greaves β, Charm with points in Defense Boost and Quick Sheath)

The game recommends having Speed Eating, Wide Range, and Recovery Up if you're playing support, but these can be good skills to have in general. Otherwise, if you're using a weapon that can guard, bring Guard Up to defend against its many attacks. Stun Resistance is good too if you get hit by its laser.

As for weapons to bring, Omega Planetes is weak to Thunder and Dragon elements, though it leans more towards Thunder. It can be affected by Blast, Paralysis, and Stun ailments. Meanwhile, you’ll mostly be dealing with Fire attacks, so make sure your armour has enough Fire resistance.

Omega Planetes will spawn a Clone Nerscylla midway through the fight. Though easily slain, I recommend bringing a Fire element secondary to kill it faster, or else you will suffer getting melted by the Delta Attack laser beam that will surely fail the quest. And if it didn't, then the huge defense buff it gets afterwards will. Save your Rocksteady Mantle for this DPS check.

Use Support Hunters

Humans are weak, bow to your new AI teammates.

As much as I’d love to play with other people, it’s just not worth the risk of them wasting your carts. I know because I’ve personally failed other hunters’ attempts to beat the thing. Support Hunters have been massively buffed to handle 8–9 star quests, and they are better than any random hunter. Savage Omega does not scale with the number of players, meaning it will always be balanced for four hunters, so it’ll only benefit you to use them.

Mina, Rosso, and Olivia are good choices for the third slot.

Go into your Settings at the Quest Counter/Alma/Erik, and change the Multiplayer setting to Only Support Hunters, then at the bottom, choose which hunters will come. My advice? Pick Alyssa (a tank that draws aggro), Kai (a new hunter who uses a Hunting Horn), and Mina (for her Sword and Shield, plus she loves using support items). This team can carry you through the entire hunt… provided you don't faint.

Attack the Limbs

(and the head)

Going for the main body is ill-advised, and if you aren’t prepared to draw aggro, do not attack the head unless it is toppled. You should be aiming to attack the legs, which are the main source of damage. Just be careful if you’re up close because it really likes using flamethrowers and missiles to force you to run.

Paintomancy deals bonus damage to Omega.

If you’re using a blunt weapon, it takes more damage from the front legs. If you’re using a cutting weapon, it takes more damage from the back legs. If you break its legs (usually in the final area), it will drop a fragment you can carve for a Shield Generator. That means you can place one down anywhere at any time without relying on glowing Omega Micros to spawn them.

Stay Mobile

Although, laying on the floor does give you I-frames...

No matter what, you need to stay on your feet throughout the entire fight, whether to dodge its telegraphed AOE attacks or to distract it while drawing its enmity. Anything that delays you from reacting is practically asking for Omega to ram into you (the first Perfect Guard against that attack is a Power Clash).

I highly recommend using your Seikret as much as possible for more mobility. Remember, you can call your Seikret to save you if you are on the floor. This is a lifesaver when you’re stunned while in the Mustard Bomb fire. The final area is where Omega will go all out, so stay focused.

Get Insurance

You're gonna need it.

Always eat at the Canteen in the Grand Hub (or if a villager offers a feast) to get Insurance because you will need that extra cart. If you want to win, I recommend getting the Suja feast for Exploiter Meal buff. If you want to farm drops, get the Azuz feast for Carver Meal.

If this guide helped you in any way, I’ll be happy! This is a permanent collab, so you should have plenty of time to complete it before the Dreamspell Festival on the 22nd of October, and when Gogmazios arrives for Title Update 4 in December.

And if you still can't beat it… screw it, just wait until Master Rank is out. God, I can feel myself going insane with every attempt…
