Tips & Tricks for FROGGY HATES SNOW

Tips & Tricks for FROGGY HATES SNOW

As a person who loves frogs, I couldn't help but play and review FROGGY HATES SNOW, a survival roguelike title by CRYING BRICK and Digital Bandidos! So, if you're currently on that same journey, here are some tips that might help you on the way.

Spend Your Yellows (Intelligently)

””

Every run of FROGGY HATES SNOW will have you digging to get Gems, the currency to upgrade your abilities. There are various colours for these, and the more you choose a skill, the more expensive it will become.

Yellow Gems are used for every single upgrade, whether it's the first or last. Due to this, at times, you'll have a few extra (especially if you get the skill Forager)! It's a good idea to use some of them on the first few levels of the abilities you might not have considered, as any bit of help can go a long way! Just make sure not to spend too many or you won’t have enough for the later levels.

Use Enemy Waves to Reveal Snow

””

When the counter to the next enemy wave hits 0, you will be incarcerated in a circle with your foes regardless of where you are. This can be used as a fantastic way to open up the snow-covered areas, especially at the beginning of the run!

Unless you've got the shovel and added a ton of points to your skill, you'll probably be on the slower side. So, as soon as you see that the next wave is coming, rush into the snow! The arena will melt a large chunk of it. This can be especially useful with some Anomalous Zones that have ice on them.

Spend Your Rerolls on Skills

””

In FROGGY HATES SNOW, you'll be able to choose from a variety of skills throughout the run. Depending on what Mode you're playing on, this will happen after battle or by finding the bubbles in the snow.

Every "level up" comes with an offer to re-roll, but it's best to save these for skills! This makes it easier to find the particularly good ones, such as the Shovel or the Cart.

Pay Attention to Stats!

””

Speaking of level-ups, when it's been a few runs, and you've familiarised yourself with the options, you might fall into the habit of not reading what you're choosing. It's easy to see something you are comfortable with and choose it over a new skill (or always pick your favourite).

It's a good idea to learn to check the stats of what's being offered. This not only helps make better decisions, but it also helps prevent analysis paralysis that'll come when all the options seem good!

Feel Free to Grab Chests

””

As someone who loves opening up boxes and getting cool loot, I ended up experimenting to see how much I could push my luck by opening Treasures and using the limited Keys. It turns out the answer is quite a bit!

The Door is always going to cost five Keys; the Treasure Chest (the big one that is an objective) needs seven. If you want either of them, you can just save the amount you’ll need for what you want, and use the rest on the smaller Treasures you’ll find! And don’t worry — there was always a surplus of Keys after I had opened the Door, the Treasure Chest, and the various smaller Treasures. Keep in mind that if you’re planning on fighting your way out or won’t be opening the Treasure Chest, you can use them even more freely.

Experiment, Especially in This Genre!

””

Since FROGGY HATES SNOW is such a cosy game, it might be easier to fall into comfort more easily and choose what you're always familiar with. This is especially true since there are so many options, from playable frogs and skills to Artifacts!

I was genuinely surprised at how great some of the options were after I had the courage to experiment. I know Kartl the Cart is great for lugging Gems, but maybe you'd enjoy combining the Skis and Backpack upgrades more! You just have to try it out.

Learn to Use Your Environment

””

Every time you get caged with the enemies in the arena, there will be leftover snow; sometimes, you can even get caught with some monuments, like the archway or even an Anomalous Zone. I even had a run where I waltzed around the Door while battling out.

By learning to use your environments as shields, you'll be able to avoid a lot of damage from some of the enemies: they'll get stuck or be downright unable to hit you. If they happen to have a red laser that shows where they're aiming, you can even tell if the projectile will hit you or the environment!

Don’t Forget You Can Reorganise Your Skills

””

Since every run has various skills to choose from, it's easy to get confused when the button mapping changes in the next run. Or you might just like the Snowblower on RB more than the face buttons!

It's a simple thing, but it sometimes takes a toll on attention or ability. Remember that by pressing up on the D-Pad, you'll be able to reorganise where they go, essentially remapping the buttons to what you find most comfortable!

Try Out Mixing and Matching Modes With Difficulty Settings

””

Last but not least, CRYING BRICK added some genuine thought behind FROGGY HATES SNOW's difficulty and modes. During my time reviewing it, I learned that Peaceful Mode has its own objectives!

Another surprise was that it also has its own difficulty options. While there's no combat, it still affects features like snow and damage taken in Anomalous Zones.

That's all! I hope my tricks can help you get through the runs even smoother. Have fun!
