Access-Ability Summer Showcase 2025: Cairn
Developed and published by The Game Bakers, Cairn is a survival climbing adventure without a set path — you'll head out to reach the summit of Mount Kami and find your own road to the peak. While the title might sound challenging — and you wouldn't be wrong in assuming so — the team behind it is making sure it's accessible to others, too.
Focusing on ensuring that the game is accessible by players with different skill levels and abilities can enjoy the title, several accessibility features were added to ensure that there's something for everyone, even those who aren't interested in the challenging aspects.
Here are the accessibility options highlighted in the trailer:
- A brand-new rewind feature, letting you go back from your previous fall to where you were. The team hopes this gives players the opportunity to enjoy the experience while also experimenting with fun routes without stress.
- Considering you'll need to grip onto things with all of your limbs, Cairn has incorporated fully rebindable controls to let you choose which feels most comfortable.
- A limb-highlighting feature will let you see where your body parts are at all times to know more about your grips and routes.
- Remove quick-reaction mini-games for those who aren't interested in quick-time events.
- Holds feedback lets you know how solid your grips across all limbs are, giving you a good idea of whether you can safely depend on that specific section or if you should try to find a better one.
- Three difficulty challenges to undertake: Explorer for those seeking a story-driven experience; Alpinist, which is the balanced and recommended difficulty for Cairn; and Free Solo, the perma-death experience intended for those who have already finished their journey once.
Cairnis set to launch on the 5th of November 2025, but you can try it right now on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam with the available demo!
