How to Share Steam Wishlist Collections

How to Share Steam Wishlist Collections

A brand-new feature brought by Valve to the Steam platform is the capability to separate wishlists into browseable collections. For those of us who have had a serious over-wishlisting problem (with my wishlist, at one point in my life, having a whopping four-digit number), it's a godsend, especially for Steam sale browsing.

A functionality that isn't immediately obvious from the get-go is the capability to share a Steam wishlist, regardless of your privacy settings. Steam allows users to hide their wishlist (or their playtime, because it's the same setting... for some reason), and this allows users to add anything to their wishlist without judgement.

The bad side about that, however, is that for those who have friends who want to gift them, there was no way to share "a bit" of the wishlist. This changed with the latest update, however, as the Wishlist Collections are shareable, regardless of your privacy settings.

This is a great system for various reasons — for one, it'll allow those who wish to have privacy in their list of wishlisted games to be able to do so, without having to compromise having a shareable wishlist. For another, for users who have a lot of games on their wishlist, but wish to only be gifted a few for special occasions (birthdays and Christmas, for instance), they'll have a shareable link with all of the unique titles to that Collection.

Here's what you need to do to create a shareable link:

  • Go to your Steam Wishlist, located in the top-right corner of the Steam Store section in the client or the STORE dropdown menu, the third option.
  • Select any Category you wish to share.
  • Click the share icon at the far right-hand side of the menu.
  • Share that unique Shareable Link with anyone.

It's worth noting that browsing around changes the top link shown on the Steam client, but that link will not be shareable if you have your Steam Wishlist set to private. Only the shareable link, through the share button, will show the games visible, and you can even select several categories, which will then share only the games that share that category, not both categories at once. This means that if you have one category called "Gifts" and another called "Most-wanted Games", only games that have both of those categories will show in the unique shareable link.

You can also sort your wishlist and make a shareable list by genre (or tag, as it's called in Steam). By searching for a specific tag, you can then select the clickable button below the MY CATEGORIES list (beside SEARCH RESULTS) to set that as a unique category. Now, with the Tag: [GENRE] below the MY CATEGORIES list, clicking the share icon and sharing that link will share games only with that tag (or with that tag and whichever categories overlap)
