Women-Led Games SGF Showcase: Toada Brava
Tonight at the Women-Led Games SGF Showcase, we saw a new trailer for Toada Brava from Asteristic Game Studio and Mateus Grazina. Harumi, Toada Brava’s executive producer, reveals that it’s a fully hand-drawn 2D RPG. In it, you play as Kaku, a boy trying to escape from Santa Cruz Dungeon to rescue his mother. Inspired by classics such as Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG, Toada Brava will have turn-based combat and timing mechanics.
With a Brazilian indie team behind it, they take further inspiration from Latin American culture in their designs, as well as in their original soundtrack. However, while the soundtrack does incorporate cultural ties, it is also inspired by other classics such as Final Fantasy, Donkey Kong Country, and Chrono Trigger.
With this in mind, Toada Brava will have a demo out soon. A full release date has yet to be set, but you can follow the team on Kickstarter and add it to your wishlist on Steam now.
