So I Tried… The Consortium

So I Tried… The Consortium

Each edition of So I Tried… I will try a game that I have never tried before. Will I find something new to love? Will I find something new to despise? I'll take a full half hour, no matter how bad it gets or how badly I do, to see if this is the game for me. This time I went for the PC version of The Consortium.

What I thought it was

A murder mystery set in space, solved through a first person perspective, in a world where your choices matter. I watched the trailer before installing, sue me.

What it actually is

Rather than just investigating, there’s talk of missions and a simulator which teaches you how to use weapons. The game is framed as a satellite - iDGi-1 - which transfers your consciousness into the mind of someone in an alternate dimension - in the future! This is why the graphics aren’t incredibly detailed, though I honestly like the art style. At least they go some way towards explaining why it looks this way.

Will I keep playing

Yes, I’m really looking forward to doing more. Half an hour wasn’t long enough to do pretty much anything, other than listen to people chat and explore the ship. The characters all feel realistic, even down to having a go at you when you ask too many questions - just consult the computer already! I also want to see how my choices affect things - or if they actually do. It could be a boast, though the trailer does have quotes from people saying it’s true.

I've had this for awhile and never gotten around to it. I really should give it a go!

It's well worth a go if you already own it!
